Manifattura Tabacchi Nursery – Florence

The new nursery, located in the former Powder Tower on Via Tartini in Florence, revitalizes over 110,000 m2 of abandoned area through an urban recovery and redevelopment process.

3FACE managed every phase of the building systems design for the “nursery” lot, oversaw construction, and obtained the final SCIA from the Fire Department, essential for issuing the Fire Prevention Certificate.

The team also handled the preliminary, final, and executive design of the systems, prepared the management and maintenance manual, and directed the construction of MEP systems.

The nursery, composed of two twin structures named ‘Brucaliffo’ and ‘Bianconiglio,’ was built using exclusively certified, eco-friendly raw materials with a high content of recycled materials.

In particular, timber capable of absorbing a CO2 amount equivalent to that produced by 430 cars in one year was used, demonstrating the project’s commitment to sustainability.

Heating, cooling, and lighting systems were designed to deliver high performance, utilizing renewable energy generated on-site by the photovoltaic system installed on the building’s roof.

An additional innovative aspect of the project is the rainwater recovery and reuse system, which, combined with low-consumption equipment, will reduce internal water consumption by over 50%.
